Who are you?

I’m Ashley, I am the creator of Coastal Canvas and Crafts and we specialize in homemade home décor, including welcome signs and Disney themed shadow boxes. 

How did you get to where you are today with your business?

After I was furloughed in 2020 from Disney I started crafting out of boredom and didn’t know what to do with the pieces once I was done with them, so I decided to start an Etsy shop and with help from the “Ear for Each Other” Facebook page and The Lake Speer Sidewalk Market it became a full-time side hustle. 

Has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

One challenge has been trial and error with what markets are worth signing up for. The Lake Speer Market has definitely been worth it! Thankfully though I haven’t really experienced any other challenges. 

What do you think sets you apart from others?

My pieces are very high quality and my Disney themed items are more unique as well as the details I have like the rolled flowers which are the base for many of my items.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?

I have been vegetarian/vegan for 16 years and that translates into my work as well. For example, the keychains I offer are faux leather and the paints used in my works are cruelty free. 

What village do you live in?

I live in the Horizon West Town Center.

What do you love about Horizon West? 

I love the community as a whole; I love meeting new people and all the events that Horizon West Happenings puts on like Flavor Fest and the Horizon West Block Party.

What are your hopes for it as it continues to build out over the next 5-10 years? 

More mom and pop businesses, less chain restaurants and stores.
